EV Mixed-Use Garage
Quito, Ecuador
Our proposal analyzes the current needs for the city of Quito. The new metro station serves as a new backbone for the continued reliability in public transportation for the city. The electrification of public transport will be the first step towards a greener city. We propose a link near one of the busiest train stations to provide a transition from the metro to electric public transport.
On the other side, there is steady progression towards a cleaner, more green city but there lacks a foundation for the public to make the jump towards electrification. Personal electric vehicle sales have not had the success they expect in Ecuador. If we provide a hub for taxi electric vehicle charging, this could jump start the use of EV’s in the city.
The result of these two solutions will be a charging structure with multiple opportunities for visual connections between the taxi charging garage, public space, and city interactions. This connection will also be reflected in the link towards the train station, incentivizing the use of public transportation. Links between contemporary global design trends and vernacular practices are established and urban and recreational areas are connected due to the act of charging an electric taxi.
