Infrastructural Fragment Intervention
Denver, Colorado
In this exploration, I delve into the synthesis of various systems to create an artificial climate supporting non-native plant life. The focal point is the Boettcher Tropical Memorial Conservatory, where its unique 1966 infrastructure, featuring high interlaced concrete arches and advanced climate control systems, serves as a noteworthy case study. This includes fog nozzles, air conditioning units, fans, and other components. Introducing a novel system, I propose the use of ETFE film with enhanced light transmission and durability to replace the existing plexiglass exterior skin. Parametric planter modules encourage plant stimulation and networks from within that occupy the existing diagrid structure.
The careful orchestration of these infrastructural layers is aimed at optimizing conditions for the growth of non-native plants. Factors such as humidity control and strategic lighting placement are emphasized. The envisioned greenhouse infrastructure, shaped by these considerations, seeks to harmonize elements for the cultivation and enrichment of non-native flora, fostering community enjoyment.
